Before you can start using Monero — whether for purchases, mining rewards, or savings — you need a wallet. XMRWallet is free, open-source, browser-based, and requires no registration or personal information. This guide walks through every step from wallet creation to your first transaction.
Step 1: Create Your XMRWallet
Visit xrnrwallet.com and click "Create XMR Wallet."
Step 2: Save Your 25-Word Seed Phrase
After clicking "Create XMR Wallet," your 25-word mnemonic seed phrase is displayed. This is the single most important piece of information associated with your wallet. It is the only way to recover access to your funds if you lose your device, clear your browser, or need to restore your wallet.
Write your seed phrase down by hand on paper. Store it in at least two physically separate secure locations — a fireproof safe, a safety deposit box, or similar. Make three copies for redundancy. Never photograph your seed, never type it into any app, email, cloud document, or password manager. XMRWallet generates your seed locally and never transmits it — if you lose it, no one can help you recover your wallet.
Once written down securely, click "I'VE WRITTEN DOWN MY SEED, LOG ME IN."
Step 3: Wait for Synchronization
After logging in, your wallet begins syncing with the Monero blockchain. The red progress bar labeled "Height" shows synchronization progress and turns green when complete. The height value reflects the most recent Monero block your wallet has connected to. Do not send any XMR until synchronization is complete — your balance and transaction history will not be accurate until then.
Your current XMR balance is displayed in the top right corner of every page. Navigation tabs including "Transactions," "Send," and "Receive" appear in both the top menu and the left-hand sidebar.
Step 4: Find Your Wallet Address and Use Subaddresses
The "Your address" section shows your primary Monero wallet address — a 95-character string beginning with the number 4. This is your main receiving address.
For better privacy, click "View subaddresses." You will see a list of unique addresses, each of which can receive XMR directly to your wallet. Use a different subaddress for each context — one for exchange withdrawals, one for freelance payments, one for personal transfers. This prevents different senders from linking your payments to each other or to your main address.
Step 5: Receive XMR
To receive Monero, click "Receive" from the left-hand menu or select "View" under the Receive section in Account Overview.
Your wallet address is displayed along with a copy icon. Click to copy it to your clipboard, then share it with the sender. For better privacy, use one of your subaddresses instead of the primary address. You can optionally add a label and payment amount — useful for recurring or expected payments.
Step 6: Send XMR
To send Monero, click "Send" from the left menu or "View" under Send in Account Overview.
Enter the recipient's Monero address and the amount of XMR you want to send. A real-time USD conversion displays in the "USD Amount" field to help you track fiat value. Always verify the recipient's address carefully — Monero transactions are irreversible once confirmed on the blockchain. Be particularly cautious of clipboard-hijacking malware; verify the pasted address character-by-character.
Step 7: View Your Transactions
To review your transaction history, click "Transactions" from the left-hand menu or "View" under Transactions in Account Overview.
Because Monero encrypts transaction data on the blockchain, transactions are not publicly viewable. Your wallet displays key information including Transaction IDs. You can use a Transaction ID on a Monero blockchain explorer such as Explore Monero to confirm a payment, verify arrival, or generate a send receipt as proof of transaction.
If you need help at any point, click the "Support" tab. To log out, click "Quit."
XMRWallet is accessible from any device — desktop, tablet, or smartphone — and works on the Tor network via its .onion address. No installation, no registration, complete control of your private keys from the moment you create your wallet.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a subaddress in XMRWallet and why should I use one?
A subaddress is a unique one-time Monero address derived from your main wallet. Sharing a subaddress lets you receive XMR without exposing your primary address, and using different subaddresses for different senders prevents them from linking your payments to each other. This adds a practical layer of transactional privacy on top of Monero's built-in cryptographic protections.
What happens if I lose my XMRWallet seed phrase?
Your 25-word seed phrase is the only way to recover your wallet. XMRWallet generates it locally and never transmits it — no server holds a copy. If you lose your seed phrase, your funds are permanently inaccessible to anyone, including XMRWallet support. Write it down immediately after wallet creation and store it in multiple secure offline locations.
